While life has taken me away from blogging in the past few years, I am still an avid knitter and Raveler.
It’s been exciting to see so many people tackle Levi’s Blanket! I never managed to get the written-out charts completed, but several wonderful knitters have. For those who find the original charts I created a bit too daunting, here, at long last, are written directions.
Levi’s Blanket – Written Directions by Mary W
Thanks to Mary W. for translating and providing the directions to be shared! Mary has graciously agreed to be contacted with questions about her directions. She is hlbronwyn at hotmail.
**UPDATE**
I understand that there are some issues with these written directions. Please be aware that I did not create them and I have not had a chance to test-knit. If someone has corrections, I would be happy to update this post with the corrected directions. I’ve also just posted a second set of written directions from April W. here.
Happy knitting,
Lindsay
[…] VITAL STATISTICS: Pattern: My own. I think the recipe for Levi’s blanket is fairly simple but I’ve never designed anything before. Please leave a comment with any questions or thoughts! **Please note: Written (as opposed to charted) directions are now available here.** […]
Thank you so much for these , the blanket is lovely. I need all the help I can get. Although I can competently crochet I find instructions and even diagrams difficult as I dont hold the crochet hook in any way Ive seen anyone else do! This was how Mum taught me and I think she was self taught. I tend to hold the hook very much as if I was knitting, ladies at our library group saw me doing it this way and were fascinated! One even has tried to adapt to my method and finds it easier with her arthritic hands! As long as we are all crafting, sharing experiences and having fun who cares!!!
Fantastic that this pattern was translated into written!
Do you suggestion taping it together lengthwise? I might do that.
I’m blown away by the pattern and then the charting and then the written.
If I ever get this started and finished I’ll be even more impressed! LOL At my age (finished 75) everything is exciting and impressive.
Yikes! I’m going to be 77 in August 2015. Time flies when trying to get into position in order to knit Levi’s Blanket! LOL
I think your post is terrific! I hope you are blessed with the time to make many more Levi
Blankets 🙂
I wonder if it works only if Excel is on your computer.
I’ve tried to follow your instructions five times and every time I end up 15-16 stitches short. Your stitch count is off terribly, I believe this might be the “problem” people are pointing out, how about fixing it???
The Excel file has some errors but easy to find and fix. Just compare it to the chart. No problems with the stitch count. I’m using size 11 needles and double strand worsted weight. Nice and thick for a winter baby:-)
Cynthia and I have been working together to fix the typos. We’ve been having fun doing it!
She has already started her knitting of this amazing blanket!
I don’t know why there is more than one of this site! It’s confusing because my comments and others are not in one place.
I feel terrible about not getting back to everyone requesting the corrected pattern. Please excuse me … health issues and a few other priorities happened.
My suggestion is to email me – which would keep this website for other comments. msfair AT pacbell DOT net
What does “CFB” means?
CFB is a typo — should be: C4B
That is one of the errors throughout the instructions – so be aware.
I’m sorry that I’ve not been able to send the instructions as Cynthia and I fixed … but I do have most of the email addresses of those requesting the instructions.
If you check each instruction section by section, and find the middle of each, make sure that the beginning and end of each is the same.
CFB …. C4B — should be: C4B … C4B
It took Cynthia and me a long time to go through each separate instruction because the person who made it up made one typo and then did a copy/paste throughout for that instruction. There a few of such booboos.
Nothing drastic, if you take each section and each line in that section and fix the typos BEFORE knitting.
There are also cable instructions that have to be switched … they can’t be on the same side.
Here is another one to be fixed:
P4, P4, K4, P4, K4,
Should be: P4, K4, P4, K4, P4 — every place where this instruction is used!
For anyone clicking on Mary W’s instructions, please know there are TYPOS throughout! Please use the Marny & Cynthia version. She and I made the corrections to all the typos.
I have now taken the M&C version and made it Plain Text … which I did by taking the ‘chart’ version and converting it in my Word from Rich Text to PLAIN.
I would think that others can do the same thing with the typo-corrected version by M&C.
Isn’t this fun?! Enjoy!
Oh, to make this gorgeous blanket wider – just add more sts to the border by casting on more than the original 148. Make sure after CO knit the border/bottom before starting the pattern. Do the same at the end/top.
To make it narrower … well, you’re on your own. Try smaller needles and keep to no border edges at sides.

Today is 22May2023 …
Cables and other ‘fancy’ stitches are EASY – they are still knit and purl stitches in different positions. Honest.
