So as predicted, the weekend was a blur – the work stuff was boring, but I interspersed the hard work with knitting breaks and made some great progress on the Frost Flowers & Leaves shawl. I finished chart two, completing a total of five repeats, ran a successful lifeline, and worked through the set-up row of chart three. Yesterday evening, exhausted, I popped in a new audiobook: The Namesake, by Jhumpa Lahiri, and cranked out almost half of the first FF&L chart three repeat. Really, this sucker is almost done. I hear that the edging takes forever, but at this point simply being involved in a binding-off process sounds like bliss. It’s not that I don’t love this shawl – I do – it’s just such a long and winding road between cast-on and finished object!
Unfortunately, working all weekend makes for a sluggish and jarring Monday morning. I was dreaming of running through a construction site eating a hot dog (no bun, no condiments, just a stick-o-greasy-meat-type-product) when I woke, with vegetarian horror, to the evil drilling ring of my alarm. I brushed my teeth twice in the shower to get rid of the imaginary meat taste. And then, still mostly asleep, I stumbled out of the house. On the drive to work, where I hit traffic and was 15 minutes late, I had the creeping feeling I’d forgotten something. I checked for pants, bra, shirt, all there. Last week I left the house with socks in my hand and got three blocks away before I realized I’d forgotten shoes, but this morning my feet were just fine. Then it hit me: I remembered q-tipping my ears, but deodorant? Had I put on deodorant? I tried to casually take a sniff without alerting nearby drivers, but the results were mixed. Maybe I was merely smelling fabric softener? Finally I had to throw an arm in the air and just stick my nose in. No luck. After my proud, bitchy rant about stinky people, I myself was one of the showered-but-sans-deodorant hoards. The shame! This is what I get I suppose, for such public nastiness.
The girls in my office already think I’m a bit odd for knit-ogling, but I sent around a desperate e-mail hoping that someone will de-stinkify me. For all those I’m going to see today, I’m sorry. Really. I worked all weekend and I’m a bit spacey today.
But some exciting news from Friday: I’m included in the latest edition of Yarnival! I first came across the Yarnival! concept when January One hosted, and since then I’ve read most of them, discovered some great bloggers, and submitted a few of my own blog entries. Hello out there to anyone finding me through the Yarnival! and for those who are thinking “what is she talking about?” go check it out!
And finally, a happy Monday to all those crossworders out there:
A reason for being late starting with K: knocked up
haha, knocked up. buh dum ching.
how is the namesake? i read reviews of the movie when it came out a few months ago and was really intrigued, but i never made it to the theater. of course i wanted to read the book, but haven’t done that yet either. are you enjoying it?
also, i love your idea of books on tape while knitting. do you find it hard to follow or pay attention? i think i’ll be a copy cat and try it once we move. i think it will help me defrag after a long day of classes and teaching.
