I’ve got a day off today (a special thank-you shout out to the co-worker who made this possible!) so I’m going to keep this short and sweet:
I discovered that the LA Public Library lets you take out ten (ten!) audio books at a time. I can hardly believe my luck. Although I am pretty nervous about jumping in to the full twenty-four-disk set of I Am Charlotte Simmons, I now have lots to choose from, and many treasures in the queue. Tuesday evening I started John Updike’s Terrorist, and although I was a bit anxious that it would be too dark or too dense, it’s proved to be classic Updike, and excellent knitting entertainment.
The big news: I am officially on the fifth repeat of chart two on the Frost Flowers & Leaves shawl. The Baron says it looks like a saggy bag and is confused about how it will transform, but I have faith. This is my first real lace project, but I am already so in love with the process . . . and it is really starting to pay off. I have the basic pattern memorized now, which makes the going mych faster. The shawl no longer looks to me like a beanie, and I can see that my pound-cone of yarn is really starting to look skinnier.
More details and photos tomorrow – for today I need to go take a dip in the pool and enjoy some time with glamorous and Updike.
